So ... I like this, I wanted to love, love, love it.For how I'm using it I have decided I like it well enough to keep it.It's not something you just take out of the box, put some oil in, turn it on, and love it right away ... you might not even like it right away, it takes adjusting to if you are used to a regular ultrasonic diffuser.1) If you are used to having the diffuser smell fill your great room ... you will need to have this setting on 3/4 of the way for strength.2) At this high of a setting ... it's LOUD, not a little loud, not "oh, I can tell the diffuser is running", it's like I'm glad the TV is a little loud or this would be interfering with the TV.3) It takes adjusting to figure out how strong you like it ... and how often you want it to run.4) For me, 3/4 strength, running for 10 minutes on and then 25 minutes off is just right.5) About the time I'm missing the smell, it turns back on, about the time the smell fills the great room everywhere, it turns off.6)You will want to buy extra quick change bottles so you can have one of each of your favorite smell combinations to change out.7) This does use a lot more oil per week than the ultrasonic diffuser ... I bought mine on 6/25 and using mine only one some days I've gone through 30 mL of oil of my favorite blend. I probably use this a lot 4 days a week, and not at all the other days (I work 12 hour shifts). This doesn't include oils I've used in my ultrasonic diffuser or other blends. I haven't used it at all the last week or so because I didn't get around to re-filling my quick change bottle.8)If you want to try running it on low enough that you can't hear it ... you better be in a bathroom with a door closed because this is the only way you might be able to smell it after 10 minutes of running. I can't smell it with my nose 4 feet away on low enough to not be able to hear it. So forget using this in your bedroom at night. Some people compare it to a fish tank air compressor ... I have two of those in my bedroom and they are nothing compared to this on 3/4 strength.Having said this: You will still want to use your ultrasonic diffuser for experimental blends, or blends you don't want to make a big quick change bottle of.Why I still like it enough to keep it:1) The smell is consistent when you turn it on until you turn it off. It doesn't fade or decrease like the ultrasonic ones do as the time goes on.2) If you are near it and inhale it, it's really therapeutic. It's 100% better than using an inhaler.ok, others have mentioned that this one is loud, and I have to agree. And it wont turn off when the oil runs out. I tolerate both of these things because when someone in my family has a respiratory infection, only this will do for us. This diffuser runs with a fish tank pump, similar to other brands out there, all of them are loud, because of the pump. Pure essential oils are diffused into the air, with no water in the mix. This is makes for serious essential oil treatment, when one is ill. By the bed , run all night, on for 15 minutes, off 10, you can up the time on if someone is really sick, just be careful not to over do. It will boost the healing exponentially. ( not a substitute for competent medical care). It may take 3 or more nights of running this, but it will help you kick the nastiest bugs and secondary infections. You can run a separate humidifier, when there is congestion. You must cough up the mucous, otherwise serious health hazards can happen. Pneumonia is a killer of young and old. Be very careful when running this with babies and toddlers, they can get too much oil exposure, use only for a few minutes, off and on, well away from them, don't use peppermint with them.I do not clean it between EO blends, as I use medicinal ones in this, and a little cross mixing wont do any harm. When it does need cleaned, soak the parts in vodka or everclear, rinse with water, and allow to dry out. Essential oils we have used, all organic when possible, because we don't want to inhale pesticides with our oils: Tea tree, eucalyptus types, pines, firs, lavenders and hybrid lavenders, lemon, ravensara (cineole type), inuula graveolens when there is thick mucus, thyme linalool, myrtles, mints, frankincenses, and a few others. Buy a few aromatherapy books and help yourself out with formulas. Some essential oils are antiviral, yes, you read right, antiviral. Research for yourselves in Google scholar, peer reviewed professional scientific papers.Also, run this diffuser to clean and refresh any room or basement for what ever reason, some of them pretty nasty. This is a must have for the effort to detoxify my home and keep us healthy. I want one for each floor. And yes, it is expensive, but well worth the investment. I set mine on a glass plate to avoid getting oils on furniture.This diffuser is the workhorse of the diffusers. I would not recommend it to someone that is looking for a fancy home diffuser to perfume the house, it would suck 15ml of oil in no time. This is a therapeutic diffuser, designed to treat humans or animals, using the highest grade of therapeutic oils. It uses no water or any other carrier media. You will use more oil then a regular diffuser, since it diffuses the pure highest grade of oil that you have chosen. If you are planning to buy cheap lab made oil do no waste any money on this diffuser, but if you are using the highest grade therapeutic oils ( very expensive) you will get all the health benefits of the oil. I use it to treat my birds since I diffuse therapeutic oils, because birds are extremely sensitive to any chemicals or strong odors. So if you are thinking to buy it, you must ask yourself what is the purpose for it, to perfume the house or use for Essential Oil therapy?. It has three knobs, one to regulate the output, increasing the output it would increase the usage of oil, and the concentration of oil in the room and two ON/OFF timers, which is great to do for example 10 minutes of diffusing and 3 min of resting and will continue the cycle again until you stop it. Yes is a little noisy and it will louder as you increase the Output, making a humming/hissing noise but personally I don't care since as said before the purpose is to treat my birds. Hope it helps.
